Emergency Proceedures

BUILDING EVACUATION

LMS has an evacuation plan for fire and other emergencies. Students are evacuated from their building and are not permitted to re-enter until the building administrator and/or safety forces have approved re-admittance. If the evacuation is expected to last for a prolonged period of time, students will be moved to a safe place and parents will be notified through school text alerts. Equipping and empowering staff and students to make response decisions is the single most important factor in mitigating active threats. LMS and Catoosa County schools have implemented a video surveillance system that will assist teachers and staff in making informed decisions and provides valuable situational awareness during emergencies. Having designated personnel who understand and are trained to use the camera feeds in an emergency is critical.

Hard Lockdown Procedures

  • In the event of a lockdown the alarm tone will sound throughout the building. Immediately begin lockdown procedures.
  • Students in the hallway should be brought into the nearest classroom/office.
  • Classroom/Office: Turn door lock to the locked position.
  • Disregard all other alarms. Ignore fire alarms and all bells unless instructed by the School Incident Commander or emergency personnel. (Emergency personnel have master keys to the building and will let themselves in if needed).
  • If outside the building at the time of the lockdown (alarm tone sounding) students and staff should report immediately to the designated Reunification Site.
  • ALL building occupants must execute hard lockdown procedures. This includes: district staff/employees, students, visitors, volunteers and security staff.
