School Nurse

I hope this newsletter finds you doing well! What a year it has been, but we are now back in the building 5 days, and hopefully getting back to a "new" normal.

Spring has finally sprung, and it seems to be here in full bloom. With the arrival of this new season, it brings longer days, warmer temperatures, outdoor play, and plenty of pollen. For many, the pollen blooms have no effect on our health, but for others, it creates havoc on our respiratory system. Below is a flyer (and link) to CHOA, Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, that lists common symptoms of allergies and basic tips for avoiding them. Some ways to treat allergies are by using over-the-counter allergy meds if your child can tolerate (such as Zyrtec, Claritin, Allegra, Xyzal, and Benadryl- most of these come in a generic and are really inexpensive- especially at the Dollar Tree), a nasal saline spray, plenty of liquid to drink (to keep the mucous thin), ice packs to help a headache. ***If you use allergy medication, make sure you read the label first before giving other meds such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen- some meds have these already in them! While our numbers for positive COVID cases are trending downward, this does not mean we should let our guards down. We still need to practice our mitigation strategies that have been in place: hand washing, social distance (> 6 feet is safest), wear a face mask, and stay home if you are sick. CCPS will continue to monitor our numbers daily and will make necessary adjustments if needed. *Reminders: if anyone in-home/or a close contact is waiting on a COVID test result, OR someone in your home or a close contact is positive, OR if the student is having any COVID symptoms- STUDENT NEEDS TO REMAIN HOME UNTIL CLEARED BY THE NURSE.

Please know that your child and your child's health is important to me, and they are a blessing to me. I want them to be well, so they can be here learning and socializing, plus, I love seeing their smiling faces.

As always, please contact me by email or phone if you have a question, concern, or comment.
