Parents/Guardians:
Over the course of the school year, we have experienced a significant increase in the amount of learning disruptions, bullying, cheating, and other inappropriate conduct related to student cell phone usage during school hours. As a result, our school leadership team has determined that we need to adjust the LMS cell phone policy to align with the policies already in place at the other two middle schools in our district.
As a parent, I realize that it is convenient to be able to reach your student at any point in the day. We understand that being able to contact your child is a necessity for parents and want to assure you that our front office is always available to relay important messages or information to students. You may reach an LMS employee to leave a message for your student by calling 706-866-1040 during school hours. Each teacher has a classroom phone and messages will be communicated to students as needed.
A very important part of our mission at Lakeview Middle School is to provide a positive and safe environment for our students and staff on a daily basis. Our number one job is to create a safe learning environment for our students. This adjustment is in the best interest of all Lakeview Middle School students for their safety and well-being. With this in mind, the following cell phone policy went into effect on January 9, 2023:
- Students will not be permitted to have their phone out or use their cell phones from 8:00 am until dismissal.
- The first time that a student has their phone taken up, it will be returned to the student at the end of the school day.
- Any further occurrences of a student having their cell phone taken up, a parent will need to come to the school and the phone will be returned to the parent.
- Students who repeatedly violate the cell phone policy are subject to losing their cell phone privileges.
