Back To School 2020

Welcome to the Lakeview Middle School 2020-2021 school year! The first day of school for Cohort 1 is Monday, August 24, and the first day of school for Cohort 2 is Thursday, August 27. We are anxiously awaiting the return of our Warriors. We are excited to welcome our sixth graders and new students to our building and we are happy to see your returned students. Here are some helpful tips to get our students ready for an awesome school year!

How to Access Student Schedules - We will NOT have an in-person schedule pick-up date so as to ensure the safety of both parents and students. Schedules will be posted to Infinite Campus beginning August 14. Students should log in to Infinite Campus and confirm that their schedules are correct. Hard copies of schedules will be given to all students on the first day of school. For information on Infinite Campus Parent Portal login information, email Maggie Justice. A video will be posted on the LMS website with parent portal directions. If you are not signed up for Parent Portal, please email

Schedule Changes - Students will not be able to request schedule changes during the first week of school. Please do not email or call counselors for schedule changes.

Campus Tours for Sixth Grade Students and New Students - A virtual tour of the LMS campus is included in our "Welcome 6th Graders" news item on our LMS website.

COVID-19 Safety Guidelines - Masks will be required when social distancing is not possible.

Morning Drop-Off - For morning drop offs, car riders will be dropped off at the back gym entrance. Bus riders will enter the building at the front of the school. Temperature checks will be conducted at both points of entry. All students will report to the gym if they arrive on campus before 7:30 am. In order for students to social distance, students that arrive after 7:30 will report directly to their homeroom class. Temperature checks will be taken for everyone entering the building. Students will eat meals in their classroom and breakfast will be served from 7:30 - 8:00 am.

Lunch - Students will go to the cafeteria to get their lunch and then report back to their classroom to eat. Social distancing guidelines will be in place for this transition.

Transitions - Students must wear masks during all transitions (class changes) and will be expected to walk on the right-hand side of the hallway. In order to mitigate risks, students must not congregate in the hallways.

Guidance Office - If possible, all meetings will be handled through email, phone, or Google Meet. If a face-to-face meeting is required, it is limited to one parent and one student. Masks will be required during the meeting.

Learning Option 1: Hybrid Schedule

Cohort 1
- Students whose last names start with A-K will report to school from 8:00-3:20 on Mondays and Tuesdays and will have required distance learning through Google Classroom on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.

Cohort 2 - Students whose last names start with L-Z will report to school from 8:00-3:20 on Thursdays and Fridays and will have required distance learning through Google Classroom on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays.

If there are siblings living in the same household (same primary address listed in Infinite Campus) who fall in different cohorts, please let us know, and we will make every effort to make adjustments. On the instructional days when students are not in the building, required daily lessons will be loaded into Google Classroom that will be factored into overall grade averages. The Hybrid Digital Lesson Plan will be uploaded to Google Classroom every week so students have a clear understanding of the weekly learning goals, instruction that will take place, assignments and assessments that will be given that week, and where and when to turn in those assignments and assessments. This may also be found on the LMS Website under the School Links tabe titled "Teacher Digital Learning Plans." Students will have digital access to teachers to ask questions or get extra help through the Google Classroom platform or teacher's email during school hours.

Learning Option 2: Distance Learning

Students who have opted for online learning will begin classes on August 24. The platform for all courses will be COA/APEX. Students choosing distance learning are eligible for extracurricular activities. The rigor or online learning will mirror face to face learning and daily attendance will be required. Failure to complete course requirements may lead to course failure.

Information about access to APEX, logins, and coursework will be sent to students before classes begin.
